Poetry & Thoughts – Each Hour

In, Poetry & Thoughts – Each Hour, I am reminded of wakefulness. How can minutes be a time machine of moments?

When I was younger, I never considered what awareness or consciousness meant to me. Yet, after many years of different experiences, good, bad, or indifferent, awareness is my presence and breath. I’ve become the teacher of softness and tenderness, of kindness and love. I could say I fell into this after dying once.

This morning, I wrote a piece of poetry as a reminder to myself and you about being aware of your feelings and emotions. We can’t be kind enough to ourselves. We need to give ourselves a break, maybe, a breath or two.

Time ticks away.

It seems far more quickly than

yesterday; I noticed something, though.

It seems to grow progressively warmer,

and the air, rain, and life are saturated

with awareness. The faint scent of hope.

Each day is a test for me.

I must climb and rise

higher to the next level of

consciousness: wakefulness.

Some mountains are elevated

high in the sky.

One day, I’ll touch clouds.

Oh, there are many steps I’ve taken to find myself.

I know that there are many more, yet, I am okay with that.

I have opened the doorway that floods

my soul with light hope and will leave it open.

I understand that I might trip and fall here and there.

One breath at time, one step at a time.
